How DrayNow Conquered the Kansas City Intermodal Drayage Market
At the end of 2023, DrayNow entered the Kansas City intermodal drayage market, looking to provide our customers with best-in-class drayage service, powered by technology. The decision to enter this market was based off demand seen in the market for drayage service in the area, as well as our expanded capabilities to move freight in domestic intermodal markets all across the country.
The result was a monumental one. DrayNow is successfully running both spot and contract loads for our customers in Kansas City, while quickly scaling in terms of the amount of freight we’re able to handle. We’ve even been able to handle freight that’s given to us with last-minute notice, recovering falloffs for our customers that happened elsewhere. Since we’ve opened the market, our on-time performance has been at 95%, much higher than the industry standard.
How did we do this?
Prior to the market opening, we were able to create a capacity base and establish a footing in the Kansas City drayage market. That way, from the moment we went live on our platform for Kansas City, service providers were already available to move intermodal freight. Our technology allows us to connect to independent carriers in the region, expanding the pool of capacity available to run intermodal loads.
Customers who started to run freight with us in Kansas City kept us as their service provider. Why? It’s due to our drayage service, powered by technology. There is real-time tracking available on each trip that DrayNow runs, which shows estimated times of arrival (ETAs) at each step of an order. When a load is completed, customers can get access to all of the pertinent load documents right as they’re received and uploaded.
As a reminder, DrayNow is moving intermodal drayage containers coming out of the NS Voltz yard, the UP Neff yard, KCS/CSX Kansas City and BNSF Logistics Park. We’re moving pickup orders, where the carrier picks up an empty container from the rail and gets it loaded elsewhere, delivery loads, where the carrier picks up a loaded container from the rail, drop and hooks and crosstowns from rail-to-rail in the region.
There is a lot more freight that we can handle in the Kansas City area for anyone looking for drayage capacity and best-in-class service. Reach out at the form below with your service needs and we will get back to you shortly.
